This talk is for parents and teachers interested in how children learn to read. What does the science of reading mean for teaching? If you are a parent who has any concerns about how well your child is learning to read, this talk may be of interest to you. If you are an educator who cares about reading is taught (teacher, administrator, support staff - no matter what your role) this may also be of interest to you. Anyone concerned about the possibility that their child or student may have dyslexia is likely to find this talk helpful. Sara Peden (B.A.Sc., B.Ed., M.Ed., R.Psych.) will speak mostly about early reading, instruction and the assessment of reading in the foundation stages. She will relate this to the prevention of, and intervention for, dyslexia or any early reading difficulties. What is known about the science of reading and reading instruction is applicable to struggling readers of any age.
